Sunscreen is Worth Remembering

Now that summer is upon us you need to remember to put on the sunscreen. It is critically important to remember this for your children more than anything else. It is urged by the skin cancer foundation to have people wear sunscreen to reduce the risk of skin cancer. One statistic they had listed stated that children who receive blistering sunburns are at a much greater risk of skin cancer later in life. So why risk your little ones health?

To begin, it is important to talk about the sun’s rays. It is the radiation from those rays that make it through the earth’s atmosphere, those are Ultrviolet A and B (UV A / UV B). Luckily for us, the atmosphere filters out the more dangerous radiation. These rays are the most direct between 10am and 4pm. It should be avoided as much as possible during these hours. Both UV A and UV B will burn you and cause skin damage.

Babies under 6 months should absolutely not be out in the sun. It is important to look into proper shading which can be provided by a @@AMAZONTEXT;B0014I4TYA;UV protected tent@@, if you are going to have them out with you.

It is important to protect children over 6 months old with something that can protect against UV A & B. Ideally the sunscreen should have an SPF of at least 30. It is also important to apply it 30 minutes before going outside.

You will have to decide if you prefer a mineral based sunscreen that contains zinc or titanium such as @@AMAZONTEXT;B002C0CZEU;Loving Naturals zinc based natural sunscreen@@ or if a name brand sunscreen fits your needs better. When the sun is high, it is recommended to stick with wide brimmed hat or UV protectant rated clothing.

There is no such thing as a healthy tan. A tan is what indicated skin damage and should be avoided. Make sure to add the sunscreen and cover up exposed skin to keep yourself safe outdoors.
